DAY 1 Arrival to Kutaisi. Tour to Prometheus cave, hotel accommodation
Arrival to Kutaisi, meeting with your driver and guide. Starting discover the famous Prometheus Cave, where you can find a very special form of stalactites, stalagmites, petrified stone waterfalls and hanging curtains, underground river and lakes – all this on a nice 1.4km walk in mysterious and cool atmosphere and short boat trip if interested. (If you have evening or night flight, excursion will be on Day 2).
Transfer to the hotel, accommodation, free evening.
DAY 2 Drive to Batumi, excursion to Martvili canyon, Batumi city tour
Breakfast in the hotel. Check out. Transfer to Batumi, on the way visit Martvili canyons. It used to be a bath place for Georgian Nobles, Dadiani family. Now it represents a touristic site. People visit it to enjoy the scenery, its waterfalls and take a boat trip in the river with deep green color. Visitors can enjoy 300-meter boat tour on river Abasha and beautiful views of mountain river canyon. (Boat trip for extra fee 9 USD PP).
Arrival to Batumi, hotel accommodation, free time.
In the evening meet your guide at the hotel lobby and start the city tour of Batumi, the capital of seaside province of Adjara. For several centuries it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire, hence the significant amount of population was converted to Islam. Nowadays it preserves a status of autonomous republic in Georgia.
You will start the discovery of the city from the seaside boulevard. Seeing the exteriors of House of Justice, Statue of Love and brand new buildings of the world known hotels. Take a walk on the famous Batumi Piazza – the square which was built as a replica of Italian city square.
Afterwards you proceed to the historical part of the city and discover the authentic vibes of old Batumi.
Transfer to the hotel.
DAY 3 Tour to Gonio fortress and mountain Ajara
Today after the breakfast you will go to the outskirts of Batumi and visit the Gonio Fortress. This fortification is one of the oldest constructions in Georgia, which was used by Romans for its strategic location on the shore of the Black Sea. It is believed to hold the tomb of Apostle Mathew. Then go for a tour of a Mountainous Ajara which is considerably the most amazing region of Georgia. On our way you will see plains, mountain ranges, carefully dressed in green foliage and stunning waterfalls.
You will also see the longest river of Ajara – Ajaristskali, medieval arched bridge Makhuntseti, built in XI century of volcanic rock boulders and mountain waterfall Makhuntseti with crystal clear water and a height of over 20 m. Just down the road, we will visit wine house “Ajarian wine house” (Tasting of the rarest Ajarian wine – 12 USD per person). After excursion drive back to Batumi.
DAY 4 Transfer to Tbilisi by train, free day
Breakfast box, check out. 07:00 am meeting with driver at hotel lobby, transfer to train station.
Train to Tbilisi. Arrival to Tbilisi at 12:30 pm, meeting with driver. Transfer to the hotel. Free day.
DAY 5 Tour to Tbilisi and Mtskheta
Breakfast in the hotel. Start of Tbilisi city tour. First stop will be at glorious Sameba – the main cathedral and the tallest religious building of the country. Visit to Metekhi Church located in the neighborhood of the same name and gracefully situated on a cliff above Mtkvari river. Your guide will then take you to the new Rike Park to admire the view and perhaps take a few photos in front of The Bridge of Peace, a stunning modern structure designed by Italian architects and one of the new symbols of the city. One of the highlights of the day is a visit to Narikala – the capital’s ancient fortress, where the stunning views over the city will open out before you. You’ll be whisked to the top in a cable car and after your visit will wander down by foot through the narrow and historic streets of the Old Town, among them the newly renovated Shardeni street – the street which never sleeps, and one of Tbilisi’s nighttime hot spots. Walking to Legvtakhevi gorge, where you’ll see the waterfall. Then under the tunnel Meidanbazar you will have opportunity to buy Georgian sauces and spices. Free time to have a lunch.
Departure to city Mtskheta – the old, legendary capital of Georgia, just 20km from the city center. The historic capital of Eastern Georgia (Kartli) and set at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi Rivers, Mtskheta has remained at the spiritual heart of Georgia since Christianity was established. You’ll visit Jvari Monastery (Monastery of the Cross), previously a pagan temple and latterly turned into Christian church. Perched on a windblown, rocky promontory, take some time to enjoy the exceptional scenery and take some photos of this amazing UNESCO world heritage listed structure. The Svetitskhoveli cathedral remains at the center of the Orthodox church. Legend has it that a seamless robe of Christ’s is buried somewhere within the temple and you’ll find fragments of paintings dating back to the 11th century, including one depicting a hand which stories tell is the hand of the cathedrals architect which king Giorgi amputated to stop him making another cathedral as beautiful as Svetitskhoveli.
Drive back to Tbilisi, transfer to the hotel. Free time. In the evening transfer to Georgian restaurant to have delicious dinner with folk show. After transfer to the hotel.
DAY 6 Tour to Gori and Uplistsikhe, transfer to Akhaltsikhe
After breakfast, check out. Proceed to city Gori, with visit Stalin’s museum. After visit Uplistsikhe – an impressive cave-city in Eastern Georgia, which was a significant cultural center before the Christian era. The name Uplistsikhe literally means “The God’s Castle” and the cave complex sits 10km east of Gori in modern day Georgia. One of the most ancient settlements in the Kingdom of Kartli (Iberia) the town became a major political and religious center for the Kingdom, and its foundations were later ascribed to the mythical Uplos.
The next stop is park Borjomi, which is an incredibly beautiful place, located in a lush valley of the Mtkvari River and famous for its spring water and Romanov Summer palace, Likani. Here you will visit the famous Borjomi National Park, where you can taste real Borjomi water right from the spring. Arrival to Akhaltsikhe, hotel accommodation, dinner at hotel.
DAY 7 Visit Rabati castle, transfer to Kutaisi
After breakfast, check out. Here you’ll visit Rabati castle. Built in the 13th century, Rabati castle developed under the influence of different cultures over subsequent centuries and this is reflected in its architecture. Within the 7 hectares castle complex there is a Church, a Mosque, a Minaret and a Synagogue.
Drive to Kutaisi, on the way you’ll have a stop to experience village Shrosha. It is famous for its marble and granite but mostly for its pottery craft. The village is located on the main road connecting Eastern and Western parts of Georgia. Along the main road there is a huge market with an amazing selection of beautiful handcrafted items. Here you can buy something for you. Arrival to Kutaisi, hotel accommodation.
DAY 8 Departure
Breakfast in the hotel. Check out.
Your driver will meet you at the hotel lobby for the scheduled transfer to Kutaisi International Airport.
